"Although the interview process was competitive, I really liked everyone I met, both Wolseley employees and candidates. Remember to be yourself, do a lot of background research and try to enjoy it as it's an opportunity to meet a variety of interesting people. It's a great experience. Make the most of it!
"You'll find that the training is highly relevant, and helps with the work we do. In the last training session I attended, we had an intercultural class which I found fascinating given the fact that I am French but lived in England for the last ten years. There aren't many companies that offer this sort of training. It makes us aware of different cultures and how they affect the business environment.
"Wolseley provides us with a lot of training. Not only do I have a mentor but I also have specific contacts in human resources who I'm in touch with on a regular basis. So if ever I have any questions or problems I can ask for help or guidance. At the induction week we were assigned to a mentor – somebody from last year's EGP intake. This is very useful because they share their own first-hand experiences and help us through any issues we may have.
The training continues throughout the EGP. There are regular training sessions approximately every four to six weeks which normally last a week. We cover subjects such as product knowledge and intercultural training. I've learnt a lot – including how to operate a fork lift. We're also in regular contact with the EGP team at Head Office and they often phone to see how we're getting on. Their support is really appreciated."
