"The joy of the EGP is that you don't have to decide on your specialisation until the end of your two years. I wanted to be able to work both in the UK and abroad to use the languages I had learnt at university. But I was also looking for a general graduate scheme where I wouldn't have to specialise for at least a year. I wasn't totally sure which area to go into so the EGP was of great interest.
"I'm currently a second year trainee, in my second placement. I've experienced so much on the programme in the 18 months since I joined. I've learnt about logistics and supply chain, marketing, selling and communication skills. At the same time, I've discovered how these areas differ between the two countries where I have been working. I've also learnt what I enjoy, what I'm good at and what I'm possibly not suited to – so at the end of the programme I'll be able to make a thoroughly informed choice.
"The work is intellectually challenging. I've learnt about new computer systems and carried out complex market research studies – these would be tough at home but they're harder still when you're using another language and operating in another cultural context.
"Not only do I enjoy the work and the variety of experiences, but I've had a chance to meet a wide range of people from different countries, which I've found really interesting as well as good fun."
