"To succeed at Wolseley, a graduate needs to have the attitude that will allow him or her to learn from people. Yes, we do have classroom training, but the biggest part of the programme is to learn in reallife situations from the people that work in the company at ALL levels.
"Moreover, the graduate needs to be confident about his or her skills, be keen on personal development and should not be afraid of responsibility. Wolseley people are hard-working, enthusiastic and focused on building relationships inside and outside the company, so a 'can-do' attitude is key. You also have to be a little humble sometimes, learn from others and earn their respect. If you do this you'll go to work with a big smile on your face. Wolseley has chosen people with a solid academic record who can also think on their feet. I often find myself in challenging situations or with people who have much more experience than me, which means that I have to think fast and learn fast.
"The reality of working for Wolseley has surpassed my expectations. I wasn't expecting to have such responsibilities after just one year. I'm working with another graduate trainee to develop tool and equipment hire facilities across France. My role consists of liaising with the branches, ordering and shipping equipment and setting up the software for the branch opening. This is a huge responsibility for us and we're left to make key decisions ourselves
"Within the EGP, we enjoy each other's company, even when the occasion isn't work-related. I'd say we're friends first and colleagues second."
